Son of James Drury and Rosa Ruffin Ruffin, Thomas and his brother William married sisters, daughters of David Shelton and Catherine Rucker White. At the time of his marriage to Margaret Rucker White, Thomas Ruffin was serving as a Lieutenant, C.S.A. in General Nathan Bedford Forrest's Cavalry. They married in 1864 and became parents to five children: Sarah, James Sterling, David, Thomas, Robert, and Agnes. The family made their home in Como. It is not known where Thomas or Margaret are buried, but it is reasonable to assume that they were buried somewhere near their home town and county.
