✞ Our beautiful mother Mary Winfred Dessert (Winnie) joined her husband, Archie on Friday October 3, 2014, passing suddenly but peacefully surrounded by her family, after blessing all of us with 88 glorious years.

Winnie was born in El Centro in the family home at 204 So. 8th St. El Centro. She was the daughter of Imperial Valley Pioneers, Fritz T. and Blanche Alderson.

She was many things, wife, mother, teacher and community leader. Archie and Winnie were high school sweethearts and then married in 1948. They celebrated 55 years together.

As a mother she supported various activities with her children. This included a lifelong love of piano and all music, a special passion for tennis and other sporting events such as baseball, football, golf, swimming and equestrian. She was a Cub Scout leader and 4-H leader in cooking and sewing. Also for many years she gave piano lessons to many children. Throughout her life, she was very active in the El Centro Community.

In the 70's, she was a board member for the El Centro School District and served 3 faithful terms. Winnie was instrumental in establishing The Betty Jo McNeece / Betty Young Receiving Home along with her good friends Betty Jo McNeece, Betty Young and Margaret Baker. This facility is a safe shelter for children today and all these ladies volunteered countless hours creating a cheery, warm and soothing environment for children. Winnie was also one of the founding members of D.O.V.E.S., a women's philanthropic group. In her later years she was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter VX and loved her P.E.O. sisters very dearly. Recently she joined the "Joy of Living Bible Study Group," where she truly enjoyed the conversations, teachings and fellowship.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie and her sisters, Jane McCorkell and Bobbie Lain.

Winnie is survived by her four children, Eldest son, Mark (Rhonda) and their sons Archie, Eric and Oscar (Erika); parents of Winnie's first great-granddaughter, Riley Star; son, Derek and his son Derek; daughter, Judy and her two sons, Trevor and Elliott and her youngest son Matt (Jolene) daughter Emily and son Matthew.

She is also survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Thursday October 9th at 9 a.m. at Christ Community Church. Burial will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

Although Winnie was an avid gardener and would have loved flowers, we know she would prefer donations to her favorite charities; P.E.O. Chapter VX (730 Walnut Ave. Holtville, CA 92250) or D.O.V.E.S. (P.O. Box 4495, El Centro, CA 92244).
