His mother, Frances Betzer, applied for a pension 10 May 1880 while a resident of Iowa. She was widowed and living in Marion County, Iowa, in the 1885 census. She was listed with her children in the 1860 and 1870 Federal Census of Dewitt County, Illinois. She was probably living with or near her son Enoch in Nebraska when she died.
