Aimee' was born in France to Pierre Hypolite and Benoite Catherine Beley Sirot. Her mother died in 1841 and Pierre' married Caroline Sirot', sister of Benoite, in 1851. In October of 1854, Pierre and Caroline brought their 6 children to New Orleans on the ship "Ashland". They proceed to Nauvoo to join a utopian group called "Icarians", lead by Etienne Cabet, a Frenchman.
Aimee' Flavie' Roine' married Frederick Theodore Pugge on Sunday, April 22, 1855 in Hancock County, Illinois. The Icarians were considered to be prosperous and happy, quiet and industrious. Their musical and theatrical performances were regarded as assets, attracting many visitors to Nauvoo.
Living "happily ever after" never seems to happen and the group split into the majority and the minority.
Cabet brought his followers, including the Roine' family and the Pugge's to St. Louis, Missouri on November 6, 1856. Cabet died a few days later.
The group tried to stay together and bought property at "Cheltenham" an area located near present Highway 44 and Hampton Avenue near the River Des Peres.
Aimee' gave birth to a daughter, Caroline Mary on January 31, 1860. She was often listed as "Lena" in the census. A son, Theodore Hypolite was born, January 8, 1862.
The Pugge family is listed in the 1870 Census in Saint Louis, Missouri and their son, Theodore, eight years old is also listed in Fulton, Missouri. Further research shows Theodore attending the Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb in Fulton.
The 1880 Census, shows the Pugge's living in DeSoto, Jefferson County. Aimee' was often listed on records as Emma or Amy.
