Katherine Flora (Parris) Caston, 91, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at Valley Falls Terrace.

Born November 7, 1914, in Gaffney, SC, she was the daughter of the late Christopher and Flora (McGuinn) Parris and the wife of the late Hugh Russell Caston, Sr.

An honor graduate of Limestone College, she completed post-graduate studies at Winthrop College and Furman University.

She served as an educator for thirty-five years in Cherokee County, Cowpens High School, Lecompte Public Schools, Lecompte, LA, and Boiling Springs High School (27 years). She was past-president of the Spartanburg County Education Association.

A member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church since 1941, she was a member of the church choir from 1941-1991, teacher of the Adult Sunshine School Class for 54 years, and church historian.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. H. Russell Caston and his wife Judith F. Caston of Union, and Dr. J. Christopher Caston and his wife Lee S. Caston of Spartanburg; six grandchildren, Jennie C. Bulman of Moore, Katherine G. Caston and Phillip R. Caston, both of Spartanburg, Lindsey C. Cecil and Christy J. Caston, both of Charleston; and Katie I. Caston of Columbia,; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Matthew Bulman and David Gregory Bulman; a nephew, Thomas Grey of Charlotte, NC; and two nieces, Gayle G. Cooper of Hot Springs, AR, and Cindy R. Hogan of Atlanta, GA.

Visitation was 2:00-2:45 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2006, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum.

Cryptside services followed at 3:00 p.m. at the Mausoleum conducted by the Rev. Jack E. Hames.

In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to the Alzheimers Association, Upstate SC Chapter, 110 South Dean Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
