CORPUS CHRISTI, TX. -- Isabel Almanza Cantu, 99, was called to her Savior's arms on October 31, 2014. She passed away surrounded by her family whom loved her dearly. She was born on July 8, 1915 to Narciso Almanza and Maria Ruiz Almanza in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

Isabel was preceded in death by her parents Narciso and Maria Almanza, her husband Guadalupe Cantu Sr., her son Rogelio (Roy) Cantu; four brothers, Lucio Almanza, Narciso Almanza, Bonefacio Almanza, Antonio Almanza; two sisters, Micaela Cano and Adelita Almanza.

She is survived by her daughter Evangelina Rios (Daniel Smith) of Corpus Christi, son MSG (Ret.) Guadalupe (Penny) Cantu, Jr. of Weslaco, daughter in law Diamond (Roy) Cantu of Chicago; three sisters, Juanita Perez of Mercedes, Maria (Ben) Acosta of San Diego, California and Rosa Almanza of Mercedes; nine grandchildren, Lisa Cantu of Corpus Christi, Cynthia (Bill) Finn of Chicago, Rodolfo (Denise) Rios of Houston, Michael (Verlinda) Rios of Corpus Christi, Joseph (Kristen) Cantu of Austin, Charles Cantu of Houston, Jennifer (Mason) Hoff of Austin, Aaron and Presley Rose Cantu of Weslaco; 7 great grand children Michael Rudy Rios, Nicole Finn, William Finn, Varissa Rios, Carmela Rios, Gracen and Emma Hoff. She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.

Mrs. Cantu established a lifelong career as a licensed vocational nurse. She received her LVN license from McAllen General Hospital in McAllen, TX in1953. She worked as an LVN at the Harlingen Tuberculosis Hospital for ten years before moving to Corpus Christi in 1964. She continued her career as an LVN at Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi in 1964 until her retirement with perfect attendance in 1982.
Isabel loved the Lord and her faith was strong. She dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. She loved gardening and had a green thumb for her roses. We want to thank all those who had a hand in her care, especially the dedicated staff of nurses from Nurses on Wheels Hospice.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Tuesday, November 4,2014 at Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes, TX. A prayer service will be held the same evening at 7pm. Rev. Hector Reynoso will officiate.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Presbyterian Cemetery in Mercedes, TX.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.
