Mrs. Sarah Scherer Rutledge, 78, for many years a resident of Springfield, died Wednesday at the home of her son, C. A. Scherer, West 111th place, Chicago, after a prolonged illness. Mrs. Rutledge was born near Charleston and resided in Springfield most of her life. About 15 years ago she moved from Springfield to Chicago.
She is survived by her husband (George Rutledge) and one son (Carl Scherer), both of Chicago. The body will arrive in Springfield this morning and will be taken directly to Oak Ridge cemetery where services will be held. - IL State Journal, Springfield, IL, 11-9-1946
Note: Sarah's grave is unmarked. She is buried in the same plot as her first husband Jacob Scherer. His stone is the small red stone in the photo.
