Jerry was called home to heaven unexpectedly in his sleep. He is the beloved son of the late Jerry Ronald McDonald, Sr and Patsy Lee King McDonald. He was a former member of Ogden Rescue Squad, Rocky Point Fire Department, Pender County Search and Rescue, Pender County Sheriff's Dept., and dedicated thousands of hours to help those in his community. Jerry's greatest joy came from making memories with his two sons. Jerry was a God loving and amazingly kind man, a generous soul and a good friend to all who knew him. Jerry was an avid hunter and fisherman, and treasured those times he spent in recent weeks with his sons, family, and special friends, hunting and fishing, making precious memories. His memory will be forever cherished by his mother Patsy; brother Michael (wife Katie), sons Jim (wife Paula) and Chris (wife Tiffany); grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, fellow firefighters, EMS and SAR members who so proudly served with him. Jerry was predeceased by his father; beloved brother in law and friend David Christopher McGowan; beloved Uncle KIA/MIA Korea US Army PFC Roger Glen McDonald ; paternal grandfather Mike McDonald ; and maternal grandparents, Albert Ray King; and Pearl Addie Lee King , and followed in death by his beloved Uncle Albert "Ray" King, Jr.; and aunts Delores King Croom and Cheryle King Croom.

Jerry, we pray as you look down from heaven, you know how very much you are loved and so missed and that we can't wait for us to all meet again where there will be much joy and laughter. Jerry would not want us to stand at his grave and weep, because the grave cannot hold the great, kind-hearted, funny, and generous man that Jerry was. His memory lives on in the lives of those he loved and helped in his years of dedicated service. He will never be forgotten and is missed each and every day.

If you wish to honor him, do so with a kind deed or a word of encouragement to someone who needs you, as Jerry did his entire life.

Jerry was honored by Rocky Point Fire Department with fire truck escorts to his final resting place, as well as Police and Sheriff Department escorts from Pender County, New Hanover County and Wilmington Police Dept.

So from all of his EMS brothers and sisters, 10-42 Jerry, your duty has ended. Jerry has gone home.
