He was married on October 9, 1897 in Cheatham County to John "Ella" (Garland) Kiger (1878–1982), the daughter of Leonidas Franklin Garland (1847–1921) and his wife Sarah Jane (Stephens) Garland (1852–1912).
A farmer in Davidson County on Rural Route 1 out towards Kingston Springs [which is in Cheatham County], he was 74 years old when he died at home of a coronary occlusion on February 5, 1942. Burial was three days later in Pinkerton Cemetery, Davidson County.
