Officer Leo Busch was a member of the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC.

Circumstance:
Officer Busch and Officer Frank L. Ach (EOD: 07-01-1925) of the Tenth Precinct stopped four suspicious males walking in the area of Grant Circle, NW, at four o'clock in the morning. Two of them drew guns and shot Officer Busch six times. Officer Ach was also wounded. Officer Busch chased the suspects one block while returning fire, then collapsed. Officer Busch later died from his wounds at Garfield Hospital. Officer Ach survived his wounds. The late Officer Ach is remembered in Find A Grave at Arlington National Cemetery, memorial number: 8788938.

On October 1, 1926, a Requiem Mass was held at St. Paul's Church located at 15th and V Street NW, and following that Officer Busch's remains were buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.

All four suspects were captured, and brought to trial. Arrested and charged with murder and other crimes were Nicholas Lee Eagles, John F. McCabe, Samuel Moreno and John Cline Proctor. Following the trial, John McCabe was acquitted and the remaing three were found guilty and sentenced to death by Judge William Hitz. On June 22, 1928, the three were executed in the electric chair in the DC Jail.

Samuel Moreno, 20, was interred at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in northeast Washington DC. (F.A.G. 43633296) John Cline Proctor, 19 was interred in a family cemetery in Joplin Virginia (Prince William County) (F.A.G. memorial number 37940097).

It is unknown as of May 23, 2009, where Mr. Eagles was buried.

Officer Busch was survived by his parents, and his brother, Lester, his sisters, Mabel Busch Tupper, Lillian A. Busch Carpenter, and Esther Belva Busch Meyer, all of Hawkeye, Iowa.
