Mary was a teacher for 28 years, and began her career in a one-room school on North Bass Island in Lake Erie in 1942 after attending Bowling Green State University. She later taught in Vanlue, Bellefontaine, and Unionville Center. In 1952 she graduated from Kent State University.
She married Richard Henry Seslar on September 20, 1953. They had a son and a daughter.
She and her husband, Richard, were early members of the Union County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. She was a tireless volunteer for the society, and a member of the Hannah Emerson Dustin Chapter DAR.
