"Edward J. Croot, Chairman of the Board, Revere Savings

"Edward James Croot, 77, of Old Army Road, Basking Ridge, died Friday, December 18, at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Mr. Croot was the chairman of the board of Revere Savings and Loan Association in Bernardsville and the Broker of Record at Revere Services.

"Born in Newark, Mr. Croot lived most of his life in Bernards Twp. He was a builder and developer and a licensed real estate broker, having formerly owned the firm of Croot and Miles in Bernardsville.

"Mr. Croot had been a longtime member of the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church where he served on all of the major boards and was an ordained Elder in the church. He had also served the church nationally, on the Board of Missions of the Synod of the Northeast and was chairman of property for the Presbytery of Elizabeth.

"Mr. Croot was a longtime member of the Rotary Club of Bernardsville and was the club's president in 1943-44.

"He had been active in real estate and was the president of the Somerset County Board of Realtors. He had been active in writing building codes in Basking Ridge and Bernardsville and had been on the Planning Board in Bernards Twp.

"Mr. Croot won the Real Estate Community Service Award and was a member of the Builders Hall of Fame. He was the founder of the Somerset-Morris Home Builders Association and was its first president 30 years ago. He was also a member of the Christian Businessmen's Association.

"Mr. Croot is survived by his wife Eleanor Becker Croot; three daughters, Mrs. Leslie A. Mills of Bernardsville, Mrs. Nancy Beaudry and Mrs. Judith Pasnik, both of Basking Ridge; eight grandchildren; two brothers Harold R. Croot of Liberty Corner and Ernest S. Croot of Basking Ridge; and five sisters, Mrs. Mae* Van Arsdale of Bedminister, Mrs. Gladys Williamson of Bridgewater, Mrs. Edythe* Williamson of Washington, DC, Mrs. Dorothy Parker of Florida, and Mrs. Florence Walsh of Avenel.

"Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 21, at the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

"Contributions may be sent in memory to the Becker-Croot Scholarship Fund c/o The Presbyterian Church, Basking Ridge. Arrangements were handled by the Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, Basking Ridge."
