Clara was born March 11, 1904, in the township of Red Cedar, Dunn Co., WI, to Andrew and Johanna (Torgerson) Boland. She and her sister, Esther, were raised in the Little Elk Creek area.
Clara attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She taught three years in South Dakota before attending the Stout Institute where she graduated in 1928.
On August 28, 1930, Clara married Charles R. Strong of Chetek in Menomonie. They moved to Detroit, Michigan where Clara taught Child Development and Nursery School in a high school for thirty years and Charles taught Auto Mechanics. She and Charles enjoyed road trips throughout the United States and spending time at their cottage in Chetek.
The cornerstone of Clara's life was her faith in Jesus Christ and her commitment to His ministry. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. Clara opened her heart and home, hosting Bible studies based on the teachings of Stuart Briscoe and his wife Jill. Clara's kindness touched many.
Clara is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and a lifetime of friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; and her sisters, Lillian Boland and Esther Boyle.
Visitation at 10:00 AM, Funeral Service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at Christ Lutheran Church in Menomonie with Reverend Geoff Scott officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Menomonie.
Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church to support ELCA World Hunger and Missionary Outreach per Clara's request.
