Harry J. Miller, 94, a resident of 298 Main St., Fort Plain, died Oct. 7. at Little Falls Hospital, where he had been a patient. Born in Van Hornesville on Jan. 24, 1892, he was the son of the late Eugene and Ada (Kelly) Miller. He was educated in Van Hornesville schools and had been a lifelong resident of this area. From 1914 to 1938 he was proprietor, with his late brother, Verne Miller, of the former Miller Brothers Garage of Fort Plain. He then opened his own business, the Harry J. Miller Garage of Springfield Center and operated that business until his retirement in 1957. He was married three times. His first wife, Zellah Mixer, died in 1932. He then married Dorothy Prescott. who died in 1957. In May of 1958, he married Catherine Prall Sponable. She died in Jan. 23, 1985. Miller was a former member of the Springfield Center Volunteer Fire Department and a former member of the Fort Plain American Legion Post No. 554, and had been a veteran of World War 1. He was a member of the Fort Plain United Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, Leonard Miller of Hinsdale, Ill.; a brother, Howard Miller of Ilion; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 10 at Swartz and Schmiedel Funeral Home Inc., Fort Plain, with his nephew. Rev. Gordon Knapp, officiating. Burial was in Van Hornesville Cemetery.
