David L. Glotzbecker

CONNEAUT — David L. Glotzbecker, age 71, of Sheffield Township, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, at UH-Conneaut Medical Center.
He was born March 2, 1943, in Conneaut, the son of Claire L. and Hazel J. (Kester) Glotzbecker and had been a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1961 graduate of Edgewood High School and a graduate of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy. On August 10, 1968, he married Diane Montanaro and together they shared 46 years of love and memories. He was honorably discharged in 1970 following his service in the Ohio Army National Guard.
David retired from the Illuminating Company after 27 years of service and then worked 13 years with Community Care Ambulance as the Safety Director. He worked with the Ashtabula Township Fire & Rescue where he was involved in starting the ambulance service. An active community member in Sheffield Township, he served 12 years as a Sheffield Township Trustee and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Andrews Catholic Church and previously at St. Joseph Church. He was a Troop Leader for the Boy Scouts of America, an instructor for the American Heart Association, a Chairperson for Ducks Unlimited, owner of Pine Tree Safety Solutions, a member of the National Safety Congress and recipient of the first Dixon Greenwood Award for the Ashtabula Safety Council. He also loved fishing and visiting the family cottage in Canada.
His survivors include his wife, Diane (Montanaro) Glotzbecker of Sheffield Township; daughter, Michele (Barry) Cates of Leesburg, Va.; son, Marc (Pam) Glotzbecker of Fremont, Ohio; five grandchildren, Jeffrey and Christopher Cates, DeVaun Churchya, and Kayla and Zachary Glotzbecker; and brothers, Richard L. (Carol) Glotzbecker of Ashtabula and Thomas C. Glotzbecker of Biddeford, Maine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Dan Glotzbecker.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 12th, at St. Andrews Catholic Church, 3700 SR 193, Sheffield Township, with the Rev. John Sheridan presiding. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Ashtabula.
Calling Hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 11th, at ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the family who will distribute them between several organizations and charities that were meaningful to David.
