Harold Cason

MILTON, Fla. -- Harold G. Cason, 96, of Milton, Fla., died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, at Santa Rosa Medical Center in Milton.

Born in Vienna, Ga., he was the son of the late Henry Gordy Cason and Katie Lee Coppedge Cason. Mr. Cason had resided in Vienna and Moline before moving to Milton three years ago, where he was watched over by his granddaughter, Teresa L. Morrell. Because of her, he was able to enjoy many happy hours with his great-grandchildren and two of his great-great-grandchildren and various special occasions.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was one of the "greatest generation" who landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day Plus 1. He was very proud of his service and has been remembered at the veterans memorial in Milton.

After his military service, he was a truck driver, retiring from Rock Island Motor Transit in 1978. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and was active in many volunteer duties. He was also a proud member of several barbershop singing groups while living in Moline and Vienna. He truly enjoyed anything to do with cars and music, and he adored pets.

Survivors include daughters, Ellyn J. Weir (George) of Lansdowne, Pa., and J. Renae White of Marlton, N.J.; sons, James Harold Cason (Laura) of Hendersonville, Tenn., Harold "Hal" Cason (Mary) of Kansas City, Mo., and Clark A. Cason of Moline; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ila Norlin Cason, who died in 2000; his wife, D. Ruth Cason, who died in 1976; and Delia Aline Martin (divorced 1946).

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, in Shiloh United Methodist Church, Vienna, with interment in the church cemetery. Rev. John A. Walker will officiate. The family will greet friends 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the funeral home. Friends may register online at www.brannen-nesmith.com.
