Son of Frank and Virginia Amaro. He engaged in farming with his father, and later on his own, on the San Joaquin Delta, raising barley, asparagus, tomatoes, and safflower.

A natural-born mechanic, he contributed to the design of automated tomato-picking machinery, and his design was adopted in Italy.

At the age of 85, he wrote his life story, with the help of his daughter. After his death, his family saw to it that the story was published.
