SARAH "SALLY" DENTON COE of Chapel Hill, died Thursday morning, January 31, 2008, at her home. She was 91. She was the widow of Dr. Joffre Lanning9 Coe, PhD (Jesse Norman8, Samuel Francis7, Jesse W.6, Rev. John Jr.5, Capt. John4, Daniel3, Timothy2, Timothy1). Mrs. Coe was a native of Marks, MS, and daughter of Judge Manford Esca and Blanche (Phillips) Denton. She is survived by two sons, Joffre Lanning Coe II and wife Joline, and Damon Denton Coe and wife Martha; grandchildren, Damon Denton Coe, II, Joffre Lanning Coe, III, and Jennifer Coe McLaurin; and four great-grandchildren.

She served as director of admissions for the Graduate School at UNC. Upon retiring for a very short while, she then became registrar of the School of Education at UNC. She was a member of the Order of the Valkyries, member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church and also a member and Past President of Altrusa International Foundation, Inc. She served on the Board of Directors for The Coe Foundation for Archeological Research (CFAR). The News & Observer, February 1, 2008
