Aquilla Dillon was the youngest of three children {Asa, Priscilla, & Aquilla} born to Hiram Banks Dillon and his second wife, Gertrude (Willis) Dillon, approximately two and a half years before Banks died. As a young man, prior to WWII, Aquilla served in the CCC. During World War II, he served his country as a USMC Platoon Sergeant in the South Pacific and China. He retired from a career with the Army Corps of Engineers.

He married Neva Hitchcock in Lawrence County, Ohio, on September 17, 1943. Their marriage was performed by his brother-in-law. His Christian faith was an important part of his life and he served, at some point, as both a Sunday school teacher and a deacon.
