Merlin was born Nov. 22, 1938 at Manitowoc, son of the late Alfred and Lilly (Waack) Waack. He was educated at St. John Lutheran School and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1955. He was employed as a truck driver for 30 years with George Clark Transit prior to his retirement. On March 26, 1960, he married Eunice Wigand at Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church. They celebrated 45 years together. Merlin was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Newtonburg, and served on the church council. He was a former member of the Newton Firefighters. Merlin enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren of whom he was very proud. He also enjoyed spending time with friends and family at Winslow Lake, taking cross country road trips, most recently to Alaska and Branson, and playing cards with ""the"" card club group for over 45 years.
Survivors include his wife: Eunice, rural Manitowoc; their daughters: Lin (Bruce) Robley, rural Manitowoc and their children: Zachary and Brianna; Cindy (Russ) Habeck, Eagle River, and their children: Lt. Jg. Jackson Habeck, U.S.N.,
Oxnard, Calif.; Jessica Habeck, Wausau; Jason Habeck, Eagle River; two brothers: Kenneth (Peggy) Waack, rural Manitowoc; Rev. Ralph (Carole) Waack, Appleton; brother-in-law: Harold Gustafson, Manitowoc; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Merlin is predeceased by a sister: Ethel Mae Gustafson.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Newtonburg. The Rev. Victor Headrick will officiate with burial at the church cemetery. Relatives and friends may greet the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Newtonburg, and on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to the time of service at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. John Ev. Lutheran or Manitowoc Lutheran High School would be appreciated.
