Frances was a wonderful woman with a great sense of humor. She had to have a sense of humor to raise four boys back in the 1950s-60s. Their family started out in a little house next door to our little house in southeast Missouri when I was a preschooler. Her oldest son was my brother's age, and her middle sons (twins) were my age. Wow, did we have some fun as kids! Frances was an independent, outspoken woman--you always knew where you stood with her. Fortunately she and I shared the same politics, and we had many a discussion about fixing the problems of the world.

After her kids were nearly grown, Frances went back to school and became an R.N. She worked as a hospital nurse for most of her career. She was very creative and was an accomplished seamstress. She loved to sew, crochet and knit. She made beautiful clothes for my Barbie dolls when I was a kid and we couldn't afford the little outfits. She made amazing dresses and coats for her granddaughters.

Sadly, Frances was diagnosed with a brain tumor just before Christmas of 2005 and died the following February 2006 at a hospice only five minutes from my house in Colorado Springs. I miss her so much and saved several of her voice messages on my answering machine because she would always end with, "Well, that's all for now. Love, Frances." It still makes me smile.

Thanks to everyone for stopping by and leaving flowers for such a great lady. And a VERY SPECIAL thank you to Danielle, in memory of her daughter Kayla, for sponsoring Frances's memorial page.
