Mr. W. T. Farley came to Clarke county in 1851, being one of the earliest settlers of this region. He now has a farm of 160 acres, which is as much as he can well tend to. Of this all is enclosed and all under cultivation, with 100 acres in grass. The soil is dark loam, level in surface, yielding good crops of grass, corn and oats. He raises graded Short-Horn cattle, and Norman and Clydesdale crossed horses. Mr. Farley's first house was a rail pen with clapboard roof; now he has a commodious house, and a farm well improved. Mr. Farley hewed the logs for the first store building in Osceola, and helped to organize the first school district in Osceola township. His farm is just one mile north of Osceola and is one of the best in the county.
