Clarence Orville Worrall was born May 15, 1912, in Idana, Kansas, to James and Elma Nuzman Worrall. At one year of age, he and his family moved to homestead a farm near Simla, Colorado, where he attended school, graduating two years early in 1928. During his primary school years, he was twice moved ahead a grade, making him two years younger than his classmates and earning him the nickname Shorty. When not staying in town to attend classes, he made his 16-mile round trips to the farm on foot, on horseback, or by hitchhiking.
Clarence graduated from Colorado State University in 1934, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega social fraternity and the Pi Delta Epsilon Honor Society. Upon graduating with a degree in accounting, he worked in Denver in the auditing department of Armor and Company, later transferring to the sales department. In 1936, Clarence was relocated to Miles City, Montana, where he soon became associated with the Miles City Mercantile Company.
During this time, he married Pearl Eileen Lamar of Elbert, Colorado, a union that lasted for 71 years until her death in 2011. Clarence ultimately became a manager and then partner for the Mercantile Company until it was sold in the mid-1960's. While semi-retired, he assisted with the management of the Eastern Montana Fairgrounds until he fully retired.
Clarence was a World War II veteran, serving as an aviator in the Army Air Corps. He continued to enjoy flying during his earlier years in Miles City. He was an avid sportsman, playing semi-pro baseball in Denver and league softball in Miles City. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing, and traveling to Mexico and Canada for special fishing trips. Clarence held lifetime memberships in the Elks Club, Miles City Club and the Masonic Lodge, and he was a member of the Al Bedoo Shrine.
Clarence is survived by his son Gary (wife Jane) Worrall of Black Forest, Colorado; his daughter Carol Ann Rice of Billings, Montana; grandchildren Thomas (wife Angie) Worrall, Sean Worrall, and Michael (wife Alexis) Rice; and great grandchildren Cash, Ava, Jett, and Mack Rice.
A memorial service for Clarence will be held at a later date.
