Michael Rock was born in Saarsburg, Germany September 4, 1861 and died July 22, 1936 after a lingering illness at the age of 74 years, 1 month and 13 days. He came to America in 1868 setting in Pierce county, where he received his early education, remaining at home until the age of 25.
He was united in marriage to Lena Jonas November 24, 1886, and to this union nine children were born all of whom are living. These children, his wife, three brothers, one sister, thirty nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren are left to mourn his death.
In politics Mr. Rock was an Independent, holding the position of town clerk for thirty years in the town of Oak Grove and being justice of the peace for eight years.
He was a devoted husband and father, always ready to help his fellow men, and he will be sadly missed by all.
Those from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Pat Rock of Waterloo, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Rock and Mrs. Jack Kotyrck of Cornell, Wis., Prof. Ed Rock of Hudson, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sivert and daughter of Lake Benton, Minn., Mrs. Nellie Rothfork and son of Marshall, Minn., Fred Rock and Mrs. Wm. Lemke of Fond du Lac, Wis., Mrs. Mary Rock and son Gerald, Mrs. Mary Gillig of St. Paul. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schommer, Anna Schommer, Anna and Emma Weber and Mrs. Isadore Huberty of Hastings.
Through pain at all times he'd smile A smile of heavenly birth, and when the angles called him home, He smiled farewell to earth. Heaven retaineth now our treasure, Earth the lonely casket keeps; And sunbeams love to linger, Where our sainted father sleeps.
Mike helped build the Big River Church.
