Sophia "Tilly" Kivett was the sixth child of ten children born to John Matthew Kivett and his wife Rosannah "Rose" Aldridge. At age 21 she married her neighbor Larkin Culberson York oldest son of Nathaniel York and his wife Mary Anne Culberson.

They lived in a log cabin in the wooded north eastern section of Columbia Township of Randolph County, North Carolina southwest of Liberty. Twenty one years after marriage and nine children unfortunately something very tragic occurred with her husband Larkin. This occurred during the time frame when Sophia was pregnant with their tenth child. Larkin died 10 March 1844 prematurely at age 47 when his large family needed him most.

Three years later Sophia married a second time on 20 February 1847 to a much younger Pinkney Davenport. Pinkney was born in the Tabernacle section of north western Randolph County. He was the third child of six children born to Joel Davenport and his wife Sarah Boyd. Pinkney was the Democratic Chairman of Randolph County and is listed in the U S Census as distiller which he taught to his stepchildren.

Pinkney DAVENPORT and Sophia KIVETT YORK did not add any children to their very large family of ten existing children by her fist marriage. Larkin Culberson YORK, Sr. and his wife Sophia KIVETT had ten children as follows:

1. William Yancy York, b. 1823; d. 1854
2. John Branson York, b. 1825; d. 1891
3. Nathan (Nathaniel)York, b. 1827; d. 1905
4. Reuben Franklin York, b. 1831; d. 1906
5. Mary 'Polly' York, b. 1834; d. 1870
6. Elizabeth "Eliza" York, b. 1838; d. 1885, TX

8. Sarah Roxanna York, b. 1840; d. 1901
9. Nancy Ann "Bud" York, b. 1842; d. 1929
10.Larkin Culberson "Charlie" YORK Jr., b. 1844; d. 1924
