They lived in a log cabin in the wooded north eastern section of Columbia Township of Randolph County, North Carolina southwest of Liberty. Twenty one years after marriage and nine children unfortunately something very tragic occurred with her husband Larkin. This occurred during the time frame when Sophia was pregnant with their tenth child. Larkin died 10 March 1844 prematurely at age 47 when his large family needed him most.
Three years later Sophia married a second time on 20 February 1847 to a much younger Pinkney Davenport. Pinkney was born in the Tabernacle section of north western Randolph County. He was the third child of six children born to Joel Davenport and his wife Sarah Boyd. Pinkney was the Democratic Chairman of Randolph County and is listed in the U S Census as distiller which he taught to his stepchildren.
