WERTZ – Benjamin F. “Ben,” 90, formerly of South Fork, and Ebensburg, died Jan. 6, 2012, at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. Born Jan. 12, 1921, in Portage, son of Edward and Ella (Crum) Wertz. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Ann (Fallett) Wertz, who died Oct. 30, 2005; sisters, Irma Wilde and Dolly Bray; and brothers, Mike and Fosten. Survived by daughter, Carol Lee, wife of William Bailey, Hallsboro, N.C.; and Gary, married to Anna Maga, Ebensburg; and four grandchildren; also six great-grandchildren. Ben was a welder for 38 years at the Bethlehem Steel Car Shop. He served with the Army during World War II in Europe. Ben was an avid hunter and was a member of the Cresson Sportsmen’s Club. Friends will be received from noon until time of funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork, the Rev. Terry Trudgen, officiating. Interment, South Fork Cemetery. Military graveside service by St. Michael American Legion Post 551. The family requests memorial donations be made to Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, P.O. Box 319, Hollidaysburg, Pa. 16648.
