John William Citrowske was born June 9, 1914, in Lyon County, to Albert and Margaret (Krause) Citrowske. He grew up on a farm near St. Leo and attended St. Leo School. He married Emma Bukowski, who died shortly after their son, Odean, was born. On Jan. 24, 1939, he and Agnes Callens were married at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Minneota. The couple lived in St. Leo where he worked as a blacksmith for 14 years, first as an apprentice with his uncle and then operated the business on his own. They also farmed near Canby for five years before moving in 1951 to their farm in Oshkosh Township where they lived for many years. He retired from farming at age 65, and they moved into Canby to live in the Sylvan Place Apartments.
He was a member of the Full Gospel Church in Canby, and his true joy in life was his baptism in the Holy Spirit and his acceptance of Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He loved farming and was active in the Farmers Union and the National Farmers Organization. His hobbies included traveling, visiting with family and friends and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his second wife; sons, Odean of St. Leo, Roger of Boyd, Gene, Kevin and Greg, all of Canby, John of Clarkfield and Jeff of Minneota; daughters, Estelle Braun of St. Leo, Pat Buysse of Littlestown, Pa., Mary Jane Gust of Brandon, S.D., Evey Anderson of Cottonwood, Lori Carmassi of Fairfax, Calif., Kathleen Weston of Pacific Grove, Calif., Vonnie Tillemans of Minneota, Donna Mathews of Sarasota, Fla., and Karen Connell of Hastings; 74 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; brothers, Isadore of Canby, Albinus "Bud" of Denver, Colo., sisters, Zita Wambeke of Denver, Colo., and Cleo Bertamus of Madison.
