Theo was the son of John and Mary [Kerbt] Hoekstra who had lived at 1820 Portage St. in Kalamazoo, MI. He was a business partner with his brother Jerald K. Hoekstra. They owned an appliance store that was located at 617 Portage St. and called the Hoekstra Sales company. Kirby Sanitation Systems; vacuum cleaners, Dexter ABC washers, Hotpoint appliances and Admiral radios were among their inventory. Theodore lived with his wife Wini at 2004 Winchell and later on at 2232 Sycamore Ln. in Kalamazoo, County. He was a Private for the United States Marines; 17th. C., 5th. Marines. He entered service on May 8th., 1918 from Paris Island in South Carolina. He served overseas for about a year between 08/07/1918 & 08/06/1919 before he was discharged for reason of demobilization on August 13th., 1919. World War I had ended.
