Lois Irene (Wharton) Foutch was born on March 2, 1914, to James Elmer and Ava Grace (Burress) Wharton northeast of Woodbine, Iowa. Lois attended Normal School in Woodbine, graduating in 1931. Lois taught school for two years and then married Wayne Dwight Foutch on March 9, 1936. The couple lived north of Woodbine for two years, south of Dunlap for four years, and then to a farm east of Woodbine until they moved into Woodbine in 1965. Lois was a busy homemaker, taking care of their four children, caring for a large garden, dressing chickens, pickling, canning and freezing food for her family.
Lois was a member of the United Methodist Church for more than 80 years and also the United Methodist Women–holding every office in the UMW. The couple enjoyed traveling after Wayne retired including: various parts of the United States, cruising in the Mediterranean, and journeys to Australia and Switzerland. She enjoyed watching her children in their various activities of sports, music, 4-H and church. Lois and Wayne were members of a pinochle club with five other couples for more than 40 years. She also began a "Happy Homemakers Club." She loved to play cards loved to win! She crocheted afghans for her family and made hundreds of doilies and tablecloths. She was an excellent cook. She operated "the Sandwich Shop" in Woodbine for a number of years in the late 60s. Lois loved the fact that she never lived further away than nine miles of where she was living at the end of her life.
Lois died on Friday, November 14, 2014, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home at the age of 100 years, eight months, and 12 days.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne in 1996; two grandchildren; a great grandchild; and sister, Ava Dyer. She is survived by her four children, Jerry (Carol) Foutch of Portsmouth, IA, Ann (Eldon) Hutcheson of Boone, IA, Mary (Richard) Sauvain of Colorado Springs, CO, Bobbi (Jim) Reynolds of Waterloo, WI; daughter-in-law, Mary Foutch of Woodbine, IA; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; sister, Betty Mahaffey of West Des Moines, IA; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service for 100 year old Lois Foutch of Woodbine will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, November 19th at the Woodbine United Methodist Church with burial in the Woodbine Cemetery. Lois passed away on Friday, November 14th at the Rose Vista Home in Woodbine. Survivors include her 4 children: Jerry (Carol) Foutch of Portsmouth; Ann (Eldon) Hutcheson of Boone; Mary (Richard) Sauvain of Colorado Springs, CO; and Bobbi (Jim) Reynolds of Waterloo, WI; 1 daughter-in-law, Mary Foutch of Woodbine; 1 sister: Betty Mahaffey of West Des Moines; 11 Grandchildren; 20 Great-Grandchildren; and 5 Great-Great-Grandchildren. The Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine is in charge of arrangements where visitation will begin at 2pm on Tuesday, November 18 with the family greeting friends from 5 to 8pm.
