The former LaVerne Hochkammer was born Dec. 7, 1922, in Newton, daughter of the late Henry and Ella (Reichwaldt) Hochkammer. She grew up in Newton and attended school there.
On May 21, 1947, LaVerne was married to Orville Karstaedt in Newton, and the couple lived in the Newton area. Orville preceded LaVerne in death on June 21, 1987. LaVerne was employed for many years at the Stocks Dinner Club in Newton. She was a member of Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents: Henry and Ella Hochkammer; her husband: Orville Karstaedt; one brother: Elmer Hochkammer; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A memorial funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at the Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church, 6524 Cty Trk C., Manitowoc. The Rev. Kyle Sorensen will officiate with burial of her cremated remains in the church cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m.
