Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Northside Assembly of God Church, Crowley for Janet Leger Richard, 61, who died Monday, November 17, 2014 at 6:50 a.m. at Lafayette General Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Richard was a native and lifelong resident of Iota. She graduated from Iota High School and McNeese State University with a bachelor’s degree in Education. She taught at St. Francis Elementary and retired from Northside Christian School after 27 years. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, Grammy and friend to all who knew her. She was passionate about her teaching and was privileged to have taught and inspired so many children over the years.
Rev. Ryan Post, Rev. Loyd Singley, Rev. Randy Trahan and Rev. Robert Richard will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Iota and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to service time at Northside Assembly of God. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iota.
Janet is survived by her husband of 38 years, Neal Richard of Iota; one daughter, Rebekah Richard of Iota; two sons, Daniel Richard and his wife Patricia of Indian Bayou, Benjamin Richard of Iota; three sisters, Sherry Richard and her husband Louis E. of Jennings, Corliss Myers of Iota, Monica Fabacher and her husband Kenneth of Iota; one brother, James R. “Cage” Leger of Iota; one granddaughter, Aster Bellard and one granddaughter on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents James E. and Cecelia Andrepont Leger.
Pallbearers will be James R. “Cage” Leger, Kenneth Fabacher, Kevin Johnson, Jr., O’Neal Smith, Cory Bellard and Rev. Gerard Morgan. Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua Randall and Louis E. Richard.
