Seattle Mayor. He was a veteran of the American Civil War and was elected to fill the final two months of Mayor Corliss P. Stone's term. Mayor Stone was involved in a major political scandal embezzling over half a million dollars in present day dollars before fleeing to San Francisco with a married woman. Maddocks served as Seattle Mayor from June 5, 1873 to August 5, 1873. Maddocks replaced acting Mayor John T. Jordan, who had been appointed to fill the vacant office pending a special general election.
