Fred T. Boone, 83, of Route 3, Rebels Creek community, died Friday. A native of Mitchell County, he retired from Mitchell County Mining Industry. He was the former owner
and operator of Boone Grocery. He was the son of the late Samuel and Lula Davis Boone and a member of Rebels Creek Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Lela Sparks Boone; five daughters, Betty Jo Gordon and Faye Thompson of
Johnson City, Tenn., Helen Bartlett and Mary Lou Willis of Bakersville and Mae Jarrett of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Harold and Henry Boone of Spruce Pine; a sister, Mollie Honeycutt of Newdale; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Webb Funeral Home. The Revs. Burl Grindstaff and Norton Craig will officiate. Burial will be in Rebels Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association Inc., Doctors Bldg., 50 Doctors Drive, Asheville, N.C. 28801.
