Max Fredrick Petersen worked as a carpenter in the Billings area and was involved in the construction of the Yellowtail Dam.

Mr. Petersen, 79, of 600 S. 27th St., died Monday in the Parkview Convalescent Center of natural causes.

He was born in Avoca, Iowa, a son of Hartwig and Christina Petersen. He married Evelyn Weber in 1933 in North Dakota. They lived in Harvey, N.D., before moving to Billings in 1952.

Survivors include a son, Lawrence of Bismarck, N.D.; a daughter, Mrs. Oliver (Marlys) Molstad of Thief River, Minn.; two brothers, Harry Petersen of Avoca, Iowa, and Walter of Butte; a sister, Mrs. Ralph (Ann) Schnepel of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and several grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Riverside Cemetery. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge.
