Alvin H. (Slim) Taylor, 72, of Jefferson City, one of the original "sourdough" prospectors of Alaska, died Sunday at St. Peter's hospital.

Born March 31, 1892, in Carter County, Tenn., he lived the past 26 years in Jefferson City, where he was well known and highly respected, being recognized for his honesty and integrity.

Mr. Taylor was a veteran of World War I, and a Great Northern Railway employe for 45 years. He has been a prospector and miner since his retirement from the railway.

Present in Nome, Alaska when gold was discovered, he was a U.S. mail and freight carrier for eight years, employing the dog sled method. On one freight run, he brought out 2 1/2 million dollars worth of gold.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Artie L. McKeehan of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Folsom B. Taylor, Roanoke, Va.; two nephews, Leslie O. McKeehan of Jefferson City and W. O. McKeehan of Tampa and a niece, Mrs. Joe Mateo, also of Tampa.
