SUFFERS COMPLICATION OF ILLS.

A Native of Potsdam, Prussia, He Settles Here In 1855, Engagin In Business, From Which He Retires Ten Years Ago.

G. A. Schmidt, a resident of Rock Island for nearly a half century, died this morning at 3:30 from a complication of ailments, at the age of 81 years. 4 months and 6 days.

Mr. Schmidt was born in Potsdam, Prussia, on the 28th day of May, 1818. On coming to this country in 1850 he located in Rochester, N. Y, where he devoted his attention to dentistry and
barbering. In the spring of 1855 he located in this city, which had
since been his home. Mr. Schmidt opened a barber shop in the Star building, where it has been carried on since he first located here, but owing to his advanced years it became necessary for him to retire 10 years ago, and it has since been carried on
by his son, Louis.

Mr. Schmidt was married Dec. 23, 1837, to Miss Augusta Schumaker at Stettin, Prussia. She passed away May 23, 1897. They had four children, who survive: Mrs. C. Beck, of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. F. A. Petereit, of Dallas, Tex.; Mrs. P. N. Kahlke and Louis A. Schmidt, of this city.

The funeral will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock from the residence, 307 Fourth avenue."
