Jane Camilla Sims was the third daughter and youngest of the six children of Almon James and Sammie Fain Clark Sims. She was named after her paternal grandmother, Camilla Davis Sims.

Jane Sims is found in the public US Federal Census record:
- 1940 on Dutch Valley, Knox Co. Tn., with her parents, her older brothers, Wilbur (Bill) and Frank, and older sisters, Anne and Mary

Her biography can be found in her father's book, "The Pariss Sims Family and Related Families 1765-1965." "She graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1961; joined the US Navy as a lieutenant, junior grade in communications. She was employed for two years at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory in Washington D.C; tranferred from there to Mare Island Naval Base in San Francisco; resigned and later worked for the Girl Scouts and Campfire Girls."

She married Phillip Ward Rathbun of Yuba City, California, 27 April 1963, in Knoxville, Tn. They were the parents of two sons:
- John Sims Rathbun b. 1969
- Andrew Ward Rathbun b. 1970

For employment reasons, Jane and Phillip Rathbun lived in many different places in the United States: Springfeld, Illinois, Seattle, Washington, and Sacramento, Oakland, and Carmel, California.

After her death in Carmel, California, Jane was cremated, and she was brought back to the mountains of Tennessee. Her family gathered at Look Rock, GSMNP to return her ashes to her home state.
