MIDDLETOWN - Ralph Leon “Scotty” Achilles, 80, of Middletown, RI, died Friday, October 21, 2011 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center, Newport, RI.

He was the husband of Carmella (Ianniello) Achilles.

Born in Brookfield, Massachusetts on October 9, 1931, he was the son of the late Erwin and Alice (Wilson) Achilles.

Mr. Achilles served in US Navy for 20 years, retiring as a BM3. During which he received numerous good conduct awards and the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star. He later retired from the Newport Housing Authority after 20 years. He was also a member of The Fleet Reserve. He enjoyed gardening and rooting for the Red Sox.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Nick Achilles, Mary Maitland, Henry Achilles, and Norma Miller, his siblings Olive Rahmsdorf, Gloria Faugno, Shirley Mendes, Glen Chenevert, Harrison Achilles, and Horace Achilles, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
His son, Gregory Achilles, precedes him in death.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2011, from 4-7 p.m. in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.

His funeral will be held on Friday, October 28, 2011, at 10:00 a.m., in the Middletown “Four Corners” Cemetery, corner of Turner and Wyatt Roads, Middletown.
