Walter A. Jagodensky, age 94, formerly of 8 Riverview Drive, Manitowoc, a current resident of the Alexian Village, Milwaukee, died Saturday morning, July 14, 2001, in Milwaukee.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2001, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Concelebrating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be his son, the Rev. Joseph Jagodensky, SDS, along with family and friends with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.

He was born Nov. 20, 1906, in Manitowoc, son of the late Michael and Pauline Rhode Jagodensky. Walter was a graduate of St. Boniface Catholic Grade School in 1920 and the first graduating class of Manitowoc Lincoln High school in 1924. He undertook theological studies at Nazareth Hall and St. Paul Major Seminary in St. Paul, Minn., and St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee. On Aug. 2, 1941, he married the former Jane Schroeder at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. She preceded him in death July 17, 1993. Walter aided in organizing the Manitowoc Shipbuilders Credit Union in 1938 and was manager/treasurer for 40 years, retiring in 1980. He also worked 15 additional years as director and officer. Walter reactivated the Manitowoc County Chapter of Credit Unions in 1940 and served as president for 14 years. On the state level he was director of the Wisconsin Credit Union League for 14 years. During this time, he served as secretary for two terms, was a member of the Credit Union Review Board and served on various committees. Walter was a faithful member of St. Paul's Catholic Church for more than 50 years. He shared his gifts as a trustee for 14 years and as chair of the finance committee and bookkeeper. Also, he was a member of the fourth degree of the Knights of Columbus. In 1994, he joined the Golden K's of Manitowoc, and two years later began serving as treasurer, a position he held for six years.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Martin and Mary Vail Jagodensky, Seattle, wash., and the Rev. Joseph Jagodensky, SDS, Milwaukee; three daughters and a son-in-law: Mary Delgado, Milwaukee; Anne Holmes, Genesee Depot, Wis.; and Jane and Jerry Newberry, Kenosha; and a brother-in-law, Robert M. Schroeder, Green Bay. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by seven sisters and four brothers.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Manitowoc, from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of service at 11 a.m.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Of all his qualities, none speak the loudest to his children as his quiet, engaging presence. We will deeply miss him but remember him forever.
