Audra Monroe cowan, 87, of Fort Smith, Arkansas died Friday, September 23, 2005, in a local nursing home. He was born August 7, 1918, in Harmony, Arkansas. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association, the Western Arkansas Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa and the Community Band of Western Arkansas. He was an Army veteran of World War II, received the Purple Heart, graduated from Clarksville High School and the College of the Ozarks (now the University of the Ozarks), and earned his master's degree in music education at the University of Oklahoma. He taught band at Ramsey Junior High School for nearly 30 years and was inducted into the Arkansas Bandmasters Hall of Fame.

Funeral was held at 10:30 a.m. at Central Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith with burial at 2:30 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery in Clarksville under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter; three sons; and six grandchildren.
