Nino enlisted with the Marine Corp in 1943 at the age of 17. He was wounded on the island of Okinawa in 1945, received the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged. He is listed in The National Purple Heart Hall of Honor and at the World War II Memorial. He met and married his wife, Phyllis, in June of 1949. They were married 57 years until Phyllis’ death in January 2007. He worked for 50 years in San Jose, Calif., as a glazier, window and mirror installer for McLeod Glass Company.
Nino is survived by his daughter, Susan Montegna and son, Keith Montegna, both of Southern California; and his daughters, Kathi Bellew and Pati Montegna of Boise; his grandchildren, Kristina Garman of Omaha, Neb., Jennifer Bellew of Boise, Erica Montegna of Southern California, and Tony and Jason Butler of Michigan; and several great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be held at 7 p.m., with a viewing beginning at 6 p.m., on Monday, Nov. 24, at Sacred Heart Church, 811 South Latah Street in Boise. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Sacred Heart Church. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Green Valley Mortuary and Cemetery, located at 3004 Alexandrite Drive in Rescue, Calif., with a viewing from noon to 1:30 p.m.
