MARRIAGE: Henry married Martha Ann Ray on 20 August 1865 in Berrien county, Georgia. They lived in Lowndes County, Georgia until about 1878-79. Their youngest child, Roan Mitchel Dampier, was born after they moved to Fort Meade in Florida.
Researched by Pat Lyons

CSA: Henry served during the Civil War as a Private in Company H of 9th Georgia Infantry. Note: there is a muster roll record of the death of this soldier in 1862 that conflicts with the life of William H. Dampier of Polk County, Florida. I am relying on the WPA GRAVE REGISTRATION PROJECT as a trusted source that the said William H. Dampier buried in Mount Pisgah Cemetery at Fort Meade, Florida, is the Private Dampier who served in Company H of 9th Georgia Infantry. Researched by PMLyons

1879 LAND: The year of Henry's death, his wife, Martha was deeded 40.12 acres of land located several miles south of Fort Meade east of Mount Pisgah Road on a branch of Bowlegs Creek south of Dishong Road. Researched by PMLyons

1879 ACCIDENTAL DEATH: Following is newspaper article on Henry's Fatal Accident:
"Mr. G. I. P. Dzialynski, of Fort Meade, was in Town last Friday, and from him we learn that Mr. Henry Dampier, living 4 1/2 miles from Fort Meade, was killed last Monday two weeks ago by the falling of a tree. It seems that Mr. Dampier was in the woods felling a tree for board timber and just as the tree was about to fall, he noticed one of his small children in danger from the falling tree. He ran towards the child and told it to "run", and although the child was saved, the falling tree struck Mr. Dampier on the head, laying open his skull." [1]Sunland Tribune, Tampa, issue 17 July 1879 [2] The article also ran in the St. Augustine St. John's Weekly, issue 17 July 1879.(public domain ) Abstracted by (Pat) PML #48315564

WPA GRAVE REGISTRATION PROJECT, POLK COUNTY: Henry was buried at Mount Pisgah Church Cemetery south of Fort Meade. The following was abstracted from WPA Registration Project: "Dampier, William H, Civil War Private, Company H of 9th Georgia Infantry, died "1880" grave #7 Mount Pisgah, Polk County, Florida". (He actually died on 30 June 1879 according to newspaper accounts). Abstracted by PML #$48315564
