Mrs. John W. Coates, 3904 Maple Avenue, pretty mother of two young girls, was talking to her husband on the telephone when tornado struck Monday afternoon.
In the midst of their conversation, John suddenly paused, then screamed,"My God, Pat, the building's falling in."
Then the line went dead.
Those were the last words Mrs. Coates heard from her husband, now missing in the mass of splinters that once was the Neely Paint Co., 423 Franklin.
Also apparently buried in that rubble is her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Joe. C. Neely, 2737 Herring Avenue, who founded the firm in that location five years ago.
The Coates are parents of two daughter, Sandy, 6, and Cathy, born just two weeks ago.
