Carl Beckman, 85, formerly of Miles City and Belgrade, died peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, at the Yuma Medical Center in Yuma, Arizona, Surrounded by his loved ones. Mr. Beckman was born April 11, 1929, to John and Effie Beckman.
In his early years, Mr. Beckman worked at various shops in Miles City, starting at the Shoe Shop at age 14, Gingrey cleaners and Keefe Auto Supply, where he met his bride, Eileen. They moved to Belgrade in 1954 were he found work driving hay truck for the Alfalfa Mill on the east side of Belgrade. They moved in 1956 to work on a ranch in Ashland, up East Fork. From 1964 to 1972 he worked for the Powder River Lanes in Broadus. In 1972 he was hired on at Valley Motor Supply in Bozeman where he worked for 19 years. After retiring, Mr. and Mrs. Beckman became snowbirds, heading south to Yuma for the winter and moving down permanently in 2000. When he wasn’t taking care of his seven children, Mr. Beckman had a passion for leather work, carpentry work and loved to fish. After retiring, his passion took to woodworking, making crafts for Farmer Market and playing card games with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eileen (Hanson) Beckman; three daughters, Colleen Beckman, Gayle Mohl and Laura (Bill Webb; four sons, John (Jackie) Beckman, Bill (Penny) Beckman, Shawn (Tina) Beckman and Michael (Becky) Beckman; a sister, Lola Mae (Roy) Cooper; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; onegreat-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three half-sisters; one half-brother; and one son-in-law (Barry Mohl). A funeral service will be held at a later date.
