Died in Newport, on Saturday morning, October 7, 1871, of disease of the heart, Mary Nixon, wife of John Nixon, aged 42 years. The deceased had been afflicted with this disease for nearly 2 years, but on the day previous to her death had been better than usual. She had worked nearly all day and retired at the usual hour, remarking that she felt better than she had for a year. In the morning her daughter heard her breathing hard, and upon going to her bed, found her struggling in death. In one short moment of time, death had claimed its victim. The deceased was a member of the M.E. Church, and had been a consistent Christian for 25 years. The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church on Sabbath morning at 10 o'clock a.m. by Rev. W.A. Smith, Pastor. In her death our society has lost an honored and valuable member, the husband a faithful wife, and the children an affectionate mother.
