Benjamin H. Rich Jr. 1923 – 2007

Ben Rich, age 84, of Crestview, Fla., and formerly of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at Fort Walton Beach Hospital.

Ben was born on March 22, 1923, in Stephens County, Ga., to the Rev. Benjamin H. Rich and Gertrude Keith Rich.

Ben was a World War II veteran, having joined the U.S. Army Air Force in January 1943. After completing training in gunnery and ammunition he was sent overseas where he served in Florines, Belgium, Germany and France. After his Air Force service he was employed by VITRO in Fort Walton Beach. He was a member of Trinity Methodist Church in Fort Walton Beach.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Simpson-Rich; his sons, Ronald (Sherry), and Gary (Suzanne); granddaughters, Crystal (Jeff) Brown, and Tamara (James) Gasaboro; grandsons, "B.J," Zack, Anthony and Alexander Rich; three great-grandchildren, Michael, Blayze and Haley Brown; one brother; one sister; several nieces and nephews; and four stepchildren, Earl, Mike and Jack Simpson, and Ann Pardalis.

Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, Racetrack Road, Fort Walton Beach.

Funeral will be conducted on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Beal Memorial Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
