Samuel J. Arensdorf

ZWINGLE, Iowa – Samuel J. “Sam” Arensdorf, 44, of 9747 Arensdorf Road, Zwingle, died at 5:40 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Key West, with the Rev. Don Bakewell officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, where there will be a wake service at 3 p.m., and a rosary by the Knights of Columbus Council 4236, of La Motte, at 5 p.m.

He was born on July 25, 1961, in Dubuque, son of Leo and Joan (Foust) Arensdorf.

Mr. Arensdorf worked on the family farm and at Arensdorf Quarry. He also worked on various construction projects with his brothers and loved to go to auctions.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4236, of La Motte.

Surviving are a son, David, and his mother, Joan, both of Zwingle; four sisters, Mary Jo (Jim) Gothard, of Walnut, Ill., Alice (Jon) Davis, of Galena, ILL., Ruth (Steve) Arlen, of Zwingle, and Nancy (Dean) Herbst, of Dubuque; five brothers, Marty (Sonja) Arensdorf, of Key West, Dan (Lou Ann) Arensdorf, of Dubuque, Neal (Jolene) Arensdorf, of Lone Rock, Wis., Leonard Arensdorf, of Rockford, ILL., and Larry (Sandy) Arensdorf, of Maquoketa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Stacey, on Oct. 5, 1987; his father, Leo on Nov. 14, 1992; and a brother, Jimmy, on Feb 2, 1950.

A Sam Arensdorf Memorial fund has been established.
