Alfred Adam "Joe" Atkins, 75, of Charleston died at his home, surrounded by his family, on Monday, Jan. 24, 2005. Born in Thayer, he was a retired Greyhound Bus driver for 34 years and a beloved Boy Scout leader for 45 years. He was honored with the Silver Beaver Award, Order of the Arrow, as well as many others given by the Buckskin Council BSA. Surviving: wife of 54 years, Patty; children, Thomas (Linda,) Victoria (Drake Hamlin,) Timothy (Theresa) and Carol (Dick) Simmons; grandchildren, Jason (Christy) Vickers, Kara Simmons and Adam Simmons; stepgrandchildren, Christopher Park and Jennifer Edelen; great-grandchild, Anthony Michael Vickers; sisters, Betty Price and Mary Ann Johnson; brother, Cecil Atkins.
