Cecil M. Allen, 89 of McLeansboro, died at 1:10 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, 1999, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. He was a former owner and operator of Allen's Block Plant and Allen's Variety Store and also a retired federal employee.
He was born on December 6, 1909, in Hamilton County, a son of James Ola and Grace (Leslie) Allen. On January 23, 1932, he married Ruth Sutherland, who died on September 16, 1985. He was a member and deacon at Blooming Grove Baptist Church, a past member of McLeansboro Kiwanis Club and a past member of McLeansboro Township High School Board.
The funeral was at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 1999, at Blooming Grove Baptist Church near McLeansboro. The Rev. John Lee Jr. and Rev. Mark Lee officiated. Burial was in Blooming Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Allen is survived by two daughters, Nancy Prather and husband Jerry and Janet Walker and husband Marvin, all of McLeansboro; two sons, Eugene Allen and wife Mae of McLeansboro and Jerry Allen and wife Sandy of Effingham; eight grandchildren, Genia Nelson, Rita Lee, Kim Lueke, Marva Webb, and Jerrod Prather, all of McLeansbcro, and Terry Allen of Calvert City. Kentucky, Lisa Allen of Edwardsville and Jeff Allen of Paris, Illinois; 12 great grandchildren; one brother, Evan Allen and wife Alberta of Stonington, Illinois; two sisters, Louise Whaley and husband Carroll and Fern Ratliff, all of Bethalto, Illinois.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter, one brother and one sister.
