Aberdeen - Funeral service for Ambrose L. "Bud" Gruenstein, 72, of Aberdeen, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005, at The First Church of the Nazarene, 1720 S. Roosevelt St., Aberdeen. Pastor Ken Palmer will be officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military rites by the Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24 of Aberdeen. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005, at the mortuary and one hour prior to the service at the church Wednesday. Ambrose passed away Sunday, Aug. 14, 2005, at his home. Ambrose L. Gruenstein was born May 3, 1933, to Lawrence and Katherine (Jangula) Gruenstein at Aberdeen where he was raised and attended Aberdeen Public Schools. Ambrose entered the US Marines May 22, 1953. He served in the Korean War and he received his honorable discharge May 21, 1956. . Ambrose married Sally J. Pfieffer Feb. 26, 1954, at Long Beach, Calif. They returned to Aberdeen where Bud was employed with Siebreicht Florist and also the Starlight Outdoor Theater for a short time. Bud started working for Hofer Construction Company where he was employed for many years. Bud later was self-employed doing snow removal and lawn care until he retired. Ambrose enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and trapping. He also enjoyed playing card games and playing Yahtzee. Ambrose was a member of the VFW. Surviving Ambrose are one son, Wayne Gruenstein of Aberdeen, three daughters, Amy Blazer, Nancy Schell and Patsy Gruenstein all of Aberdeen, three brothers, Roy (Lorraine) Gruenstein, Joe (Clara) Gruenstein and John (Barb) Gruenstein all of Aberdeen, one sister Marie Rott of Riverside, Calif., and six grandchildren, Robert Gruenstein, Michael Gruenstein, Nicholas Blazer, Brooke Schell, Brandy Schell and Brittney Schell. Ambrose was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sally in May, 2002, one son Mark Gruenstein, one brother and three sisters. Pallbearers will be Brent Schell, Chuck Gruenstein, Randy Dennert, Roy Gruenstein, John Gruenstein and Lonnie Bartell.
